What to Wear Under a Corset
Wondering what to wear under a corset? Our favorite answer is a thin, snug, breathable layer between your skin and your corset, like a seamless bamboo corset liner, a fitted tank top or a camisole. With an underbust corset, you'll keep wearing your favorite bra, and with an overbust, many people skip the bra altogether!
Here at Orchard Corset HQ, we suggest wearing a liner from day one, and we've got plenty of tips for the rest of your outfit too. Whether you're waist training, seasoning your very first corset or planning a look for a night out, here's exactly what goes under (and over!) your corset.
What should you wear under a corset?
The short answer is a smooth layer next to your skin, plus your usual bra if your corset sits below your bust. Here's our quick guide by corset type, so you can find yours at a glance.
| Your corset | Next to your skin | Do you wear a bra? | Our tip |
| Underbust, standard length or waspie | A Seamless Bamboo Corset Liner, a fitted tank top or a camisole | Yes, your favorite bra | The Vedette 941 smooths any back bulge at the bra band |
| Longline underbust | A Seamless Bamboo Longline Corset Liner | Yes, your favorite bra | The longline liner is great for longer torsos |
| Overbust | A Seamless Bamboo Longline Corset Liner | Many people skip it | Our longline liner is great for wearing under overbust corsets |
| A corset worn over your clothes | A fitted tee, a blouse, a bodysuit or a dress | Your usual bra | V lacing is a great way to hide extra laces |
Why wear anything under your corset?
A layer under your corset is good for both of you: it's softer on your skin, and it protects your corset. Our corsets are dry clean only, so a liner or camisole is what keeps natural oils, lotions and deodorant from soaking into your corset. We always recommend wearing a layer of fabric between yourself and your corset, and once you try it, you'll never want to skip it!
A liner also helps your corset feel better on your skin, especially as you wear it for longer stretches. It's one of the easiest ways to extend the life of your corset, and if you love a cool, breezy corset, a mesh corset with a liner underneath will keep you as cool as possible.
Do you need a liner under your corset?
A corset liner is a soft, seamless tube you pull on before your corset, and it sits between your corset and your skin. Ours are made from a stretchy, breathable bamboo-based fabric (75% rayon derived from natural bamboo fibers, 20% polyamide and 5% spandex), and they come in black and beige. They're unisex, too!

Your liner is all about comfort (it's not a compression garment), so your corset does all the shaping while your liner keeps everything smooth underneath.
So, do you need one? We highly recommend it, and we suggest wearing one from the very first day you season your corset. Here's how our liners compare, checked on October 14, 2026:
| Liner | Best with | Price |
| Seamless Bamboo Corset Liner | Standard length and waspie underbusts | $15 |
| Seamless Bamboo Longline Corset Liner | Longer torsos and overbust corsets | $16 |
| 3-Pack Seamless Bamboo Corset Liners | Everyday wear, with spares on hand | $39 |
| 3-Pack Seamless Bamboo Longline Corset Liners | Everyday wear with a longline or overbust | $42 |
Your liner size goes by your natural waist, and here's the chart from our product pages:
| Liner size | Natural waist |
| XS/S | 21 to 28 inches |
| S/M | 27 to 32 inches |
| M/L | 31 to 40 inches |
| L/XL | 38 to 45 inches |
| XL/2XL | 43 to 55 inches |
If you land between two sizes, our real, live sizing experts are always happy to help you choose. You'll find every option in our corset liner collection.
Can you wear a tank top or camisole instead?
Absolutely! A fitted tank top or camisole works well under your corset, and a cotton camisole is a lovely choice. When customers are trying on a new corset, we always suggest wearing a tank top or camisole underneath to protect it from oils, lotions and deodorant.
The trick is to pick one that's snug and smooth, so it stays put and doesn't bunch up under your corset. A loose tank can bunch and wrinkle under your corset, so for longer wear, we love a seamless liner.
Love a bodysuit? Wearing a bodysuit under your corset is a seamless way to wear a basic top that won't budge throughout the day, while still making it easy to use the restroom. Your future self will thank you for that one!
Do you wear a bra with a corset?
With an underbust corset, yes! An underbust sits just below your bust, so your own bra works beautifully with it. Pop on your bra and your liner first, then put on your corset (and always fully loosen your corset before putting it on or taking it off).

One of the top questions we hear from customers is how to smooth any back bulge around the back bra strap, and our beloved Vedette 941 Underbust Bra Booster is always our answer. Its supportive demi cups hold your bra securely in place, it comes in sizes XS to 3XL, and it's $64. It also helps conceal the top edge of your corset on your upper back, which makes stealthing easier. If your cup size is above a D, we suggest sizing up for a more comfortable fit.
With an overbust corset, many people skip the bra, since an overbust can work as a bra alternative. A longline liner underneath is all you need. If you have a fuller bust, our guide to choosing a corset for a large bust walks you through both routes.
What should you wear under your corset for waist training?
If you're waist training, you'll love having a liner. You'll be wearing your corset for longer stretches, and a soft, breathable layer makes a real difference day after day. For beginning corseters and waist trainers, we suggest an underbust as your first corset, with your favorite bra and a liner underneath.
Start wearing your liner from the very first day you season your corset, while you build up your wearing time over 10 to 14 days. A 3-pack makes this easy, since you'll always have a spare ready to go. And if you're new to waist training, our Waist Training 101 guide covers everything else you'll want to know!
What can you wear under a corset as an outfit?
Corsets look amazing over your clothes, too! Wear yours on the outside and it becomes the focal point of a gorgeous outfit, which is where the fun really starts.
Here are a few of our favorite combinations:
- Your favorite jeans and a tee, for a casual day look
- A pretty blouse under a brocade overbust
- A long sleeved fitted top, for cooler days
- A wrap dress or a skater dress, worn with your corset over it
- A bodysuit under your corset, which stays put all day

When you wear a shirt under your corset, thin, smooth fabrics sit best. Save your cozy knits for the days you'd like to hide your corset, because worn over the top, they make it almost invisible!
