How to Choose a Corset for a Large Bust
Can you wear a corset if you have a large bust? Absolutely! Choosing a corset for a large bust starts with one happy decision: an underbust corset worn with your favorite bra, or an overbust corset with real room in the cups. Both are lovely options, and the one you'll love most comes down to how you'd like to wear it.
At Orchard Corset, we understand a fuller bust can make choosing a corset feel a little tricky. We'll walk you through both routes below, from the easiest way to get started, to the overbusts with the most room for your curves. If you already have your heart set on an overbust, you can browse our overbust corsets and our plus size overbust corsets anytime. And whenever you'd like a second opinion, our real, live sizing experts are always happy to help!
Should you go with an underbust or an overbust?
Whether you need an overbust or an underbust depends on what you'd like to use your corset for. If you're waist training, an underbust is the one for you, because we don't recommend overbusts for waist training. Underbust corsets are generally easier to fit, wear and season, and they're great for waist training, for wearing under your clothes and for everyday wear. Overbust corsets are fabulous statement pieces for a night out on the town or a special event, and they can also be great if you're looking for a bra alternative.
For beginning corseters and waist trainers, we suggest an underbust as your first corset. It's easier to fit and offers more versatility for everyday support and waist training, and you'll find lots of styles to choose from in our underbust corsets. If you're dreaming of a showstopping look for an event, cosplay or costume, an overbust is a great option! Our Buyer's Guide has all the details on every one of our styles, so you can take your time and find your favorite.
Can you wear an underbust corset with a big bust?
Yes, and it's one of the easiest ways to start corseting with a fuller bust! An underbust corset sits just below your bust, so you can keep wearing the supportive bra you already know and love. When you take your underbust measurement, you'll measure right at your bra line, and our corset sizing guide walks you through every step.
Want a little extra help up top? Our beloved Vedette 941 underbust bra booster is a favorite among our customers. Its supportive demi cups give your bustline a boost and hold your bra securely in place, with comfortable underwire support and wide adjustable shoulder straps at the front. It comes in sizes XS to 3XL, and if your cup size is above a D, we suggest sizing up for a more comfortable fit.
One of the top questions we hear from customers is how to smooth the dreaded back bulge around the back bra strap, and the Vedette 941 is always our solution! It also helps conceal the top edge of your corset across your upper back, which makes it easier to wear your corset under your clothes, and you can wear it on its own, too.
Your corset can help with back bulge, too, once you know your curve and your seated torso length. If you're an Hourglass Curve, the high back and contoured underbust line of our CS-426 Standard lifts the bust and smooths any back bulge near the bra strap line, and our CS-426 Longline does the same if your seated torso is 11 inches or more. If you're a Romantic Curve, the straighter edge below the bust line on our CS-411 Standard hugs your bust without a push-up effect, and our CS-411 Longline works the same way if your seated torso is 11 inches or more.
And if your torso is on the shorter side, you're in great company! More than half of our customers can't wear a longline corset, and that's perfectly okay, because you'll find lovely standard and waspie lengths in our underbust corsets. Not sure which curve you are? Our sizing experts would be happy to do a fit assessment with you.

Which overbust corset has the most room for a large bust?
If you're a Romantic Curve and you'd love an overbust corset for a large bust, our CS-530 is a wonderful choice. It has a sweetheart neckline and a full coverage cup that rides high up, around and underneath the arm to minimize unwanted bulging. If you're looking for a shapely overbust with plenty of support for a large bust, you'll love the feel of this one! It's ideal for cup sizes C to G. The front comes down to a longline length over your tummy for coverage where you want it most, while the sides are cut away so you can wear it comfortably with a shorter torso. You'll find the CS-530 in sizes 18 to 40, in satin, brocade and our new mesh.
If you're a Romantic Curve and a standard length suits you, our CS-411 overbust has everything you love about our CS-411 standard, made even better with flattering cups for moderate to large busts. It suits cup sizes B to E, depending on your comfort level, and it's a wonderful choice if you love the comfortable shape of the CS-411 and want an overbust to match.
Our CS-511 is the gorgeous Princess Cut Corset Top of the family, made for a long, curvy Hourglass Curve frame with a smaller bust size than our other overbusts. Its defined cup shape is lovely for adding fullness to a smaller bust. One of our customers, Brittney, told us the CS-511 didn't have large enough cups for her, so if you're an Hourglass Curve with a full bust, our sizing experts would love to look at your measurements and bra size with you before you choose.
Our overbusts come in Romantic Curve and Hourglass Curve, so if your body shape calls for a Modern Curve or Extreme Curve corset, an underbust with your favorite bra is the way to go. You'll get the waist shaping you love, and your bra takes care of the support.

What if you have a big bust and a small waist?
Here's where a little corset math comes in handy! Every overbust has a set amount of room at the bust compared with its waist. When it's laced shut, the bust of our CS-530 measures about 9 inches larger than its waist, the bust line of our CS-411 overbust is 9 to 10 inches larger, and the bust of our CS-511 is about 6 inches larger. On our CS-530, the cup size grows with the corset size, too, so a smaller corset size has a smaller bust.
That's why our sizing team always looks at your bust and your waist together. If your bust is much fuller than your waist, the bust of your overbust may fill up before the waist closes, and that's when an underbust with your favorite bra can be the comfiest choice of all. Send our sizing experts your measurements and your bra size, and they'll let you know honestly whether an overbust will give you the room you need. We'd love to help you get it right the first time!
How do you measure for an overbust corset?
You'll measure for an overbust the same way you'd measure for any of our corsets. Wear a comfy, supportive bra, then measure your natural waist (that's where you naturally bend from side to side) and your seated torso length, sitting up straight in a chair. Our corset sizing guide shows you exactly how.
As a general guideline, if your natural waist is under about 38 inches, you'll order 4 to 7 inches smaller, and if it's over about 38 inches, you'll order 7 to 10 inches smaller. Your corset should be the same length as your seated torso, or a little shorter. Any longer, and you won't be able to sit down comfortably in it!
Here's a little secret from our sizing team: our corset calculator hasn't learned enough to recommend overbusts yet. So when you've taken your measurements, open a ticket or chat with our real, live sizing experts, and please include your bra size so they can best assist you. They'll help you find a corset that fits like a tight hug.
Does your bra size tell you your corset size?
Your bra size is a really helpful clue, and our sizing team will always ask for it when you're choosing an overbust! Your corset size itself comes from your waist. Corset sizes are the closed waist measurement of the corset, so you'll order by your natural waist and let your bra size help us check the fit of the cups.
Each of our overbusts is made for its own range of cup sizes, and you'll find those details on every product page and in our corset comparison chart. If you're between two styles, send us both your measurements and your bra size, and we'll happily help you choose.
What should you wear under your corset with a fuller bust?
With an underbust, your favorite supportive bra is perfect, and the Vedette 941 is lovely if you'd like a little extra lift and smoothing. A corset liner is a wonderful layer to add under any corset, too. Wear our standard length liner with an underbust, or choose our seamless bamboo longline liner, which is great for longer torsos or wearing under overbust corsets. You'll find them all in our corset liners.
Looking for a bustier style for a large bust? Our overbust corsets give you that gorgeous look with real steel boned support. For more ideas, see our full guide to what to wear under a corset.

With an underbust corset, your favorite bra does the supporting, and the Vedette 941 can give your bustline a little extra boost.
Can you wear your own bra with an underbust corset?
