What is a faja?

A faja is a high-compression shaping garment, traditionally made in Colombia, that smooths and supports the torso rather than cinching one narrow point at the waist. Fajas use dense stretch fabric, usually a latex or powernet blend, to compress a wide area, which is why they sit invisibly under clothing and can be worn for longer stretches than a rigid garment.

This collection holds 19 Vedette garments, and they are not interchangeable. The right one depends on the job.

• Waist cinchers (10 styles): the most focused option. Front hook-and-eye closure with two rows of adjustment, strapless or strapped, some with a zipper front. Best for waist shaping and wearing during exercise. Includes waspie lengths for shorter torsos.

• Full-body fajas and body shapers (6 styles): mid-thigh and full-torso coverage that smooths the waist, hips, lower abdomen and thighs together. Best under fitted clothing where a short garment would leave a visible edge.

• Bodysuits: one-piece shaping with adjustable, removable straps and a hook closure at the crotch.

• Targeted shapers: an upper-arm and back-smoothing shaper, and an underbust bra booster you wear with your own bra.

Compression levels, in plain terms

Vedette labels compression on the garment itself, and the wording is worth reading before you choose. Firm Control smooths under clothing for all-day wear. Strong Compression shapes the waist noticeably and is what most people mean when they say faja. POWERFUL and Extra Firm Control give the most shaping and the least give. Excellent results, but plan on shorter sessions until you are used to them.

Sizing runs X-Small to 3X-Large, and faja sizing is not dress sizing: it is driven by your waist measurement. Getting it wrong is the single most common reason a faja disappoints, so measure first or ask our fit team. Prices run $48.75 to $123.50, with free US shipping over $80.

Why Colombian-made matters

Colombia has a genuine shapewear manufacturing tradition, and "faja colombiana" is a description of origin and construction, not a marketing flourish. Vedette has been producing compression garments since 1979. The brand began with garments worn following surgery and grew into one of the larger shapewear manufacturers across the United States, Colombia and Mexico. Every faja in this collection is made in Colombia.

Most garments in this collection contain latex. If you are allergic or sensitive to latex, these may not be suitable for you, so check the individual product page, as a few styles are latex-free. For hygiene reasons, shapewear cannot be returned or exchanged, which is exactly why we would rather size you correctly the first time. Common questions about Colombian fajas

What is the difference between a faja and regular shapewear?

Compression strength and construction. Regular shapewear uses light stretch fabric to smooth a silhouette. A faja uses dense latex or powernet, structured panels and a hook-and-eye or zip closure to apply real compression across the torso. The shaping effect is substantially stronger, and so is the feel of wearing one.

What is the difference between a faja and a waist trainer?

A faja compresses a wide area of the torso for all-over smoothing and support. A waist trainer concentrates compression on the waist alone for focused cinching. Fajas are generally more comfortable for long wear; waist trainers give a more dramatic waist effect while worn. Many people own both.

Can I wear a faja if I have not had surgery?

Yes. Fajas are widely worn for everyday smoothing under clothing, for waist shaping, and during exercise, with no connection to surgery at all. Post-surgical compression is one use among several.

How tight should a faja be?

Firm, but never painful. You should be able to breathe normally, sit comfortably, and remove it without a struggle. If it pinches, restricts your breathing, numbs anything, or leaves deep marks, it is too small, so size up. Compression should feel like steady, even pressure, not a squeeze at one point.

How long does it take to see results?

The smoothing and shaping effect is immediate and visible the moment you put it on, under clothing. What a faja does not do is permanently change your body: it shapes while you wear it. Treat any claim otherwise with suspicion.

What size faja should I get?

Size by your waist measurement, not your dress size, using the size chart on each product page. Vedette runs X-Small to 3X-Large. If you fall between two sizes, or your waist and hip measurements point to different sizes, contact our fit team. Shapewear cannot be returned, so this is worth two minutes.

Can I wear a faja after surgery?

Vedette's compression garments originated in post-surgical use, and many customers buy them for that reason. However, compression after any procedure is a medical decision. The garment type, compression level and wear schedule should come from your surgeon, not from us. Ask them what they want you in, then talk to our fit team about sizing.

Can men wear fajas?
